Today’s podcast is in continuation of the media coverage of the SES conference that took place in San Jose, CA last week.

In an attempt to uncover the proverbial “golden nugget” for Web professionals, I placed a call for interview to a number of notable speakers and exhibitors participating. To that end, I connected up by telephone with Tim Musgrove PhD, founder and CEO of TextDigger.com.

In this interview, Dr. Musgrove shares a few insights on a session that he sat in on the entitled “Don’t call it a Come Back Semantic Technology and Search.” The panelist consisted of titans of industry such as Google, Bing, Ask, YeildBuild, Yahoo and RadarNetworks. Dana Todd the session moderator and the panelist talked about semantic recommendations that can increase site optimization and landing page rankings.

In this three minute interview, Dr. Musgrove addresses my request for a golden nugget by introducing a Semantic Technology product that he’s developed at TextDigger.com. It’s available today and according to independent research is been proven to work to improve rankings and search relevance. It’s also available now for a free download at TextDigger.com.

Dr. Musgrove has agreed to participate in future interviews where we will talk about the case studies that came out of the session, how the product works in depth and how Web professionals can benefit.

Check out the full three minute interview on today’s Web Pro Minute website.

A Full Transcript of this podcast will be available in seventy two hours.

More information on Semantic Technology

According to Wikipedia Semantic Technology is:

In software, semantic technology encodes meanings separately from data and content files, and separately from application code.

This enables machines as well as people to understand, share and reason with them at execution time. With semantic technologies, adding, changing and implementing new relationships or interconnecting programs in a different way can be just as simple as changing the external model that these programs share.

With traditional information technology, on the other hand, meanings and relationships must be predefined and “hard wired” into data formats and the application program code at design time. This means that when something changes, previously unexchanged information needs to be exchanged, or two programs need to interoperate in a new way, the humans must get involved.

Off-line, the parties must define and communicate between them the knowledge needed to make the change, and then recode the data structures and program logic to accommodate it, and then apply these changes to the database and the application. Then, and only then, can they implement the changes.

Semantic technologies are “meaning-centered.” They include tools for:

* autorecognition of topics and concepts,
* information and meaning extraction, and
* categorization.

Given a question, semantic technologies can directly search topics, concepts, associations that span a vast number of sources.

Semantic technologies provide an abstraction layer above existing IT technologies that enables bridging and interconnection of data, content, and processes. Second, from the portal perspective, semantic technologies can be thought of as a new level of depth that provides far more intelligent, capable, relevant, and responsive interaction than with information technologies alone.

Google Ad Models and the Future of Search Advertising

For today’s podcast, I reached out to Rebecca Lieb, editor, consultant, speaker, and VP, North America Econsultancy. Rebecca Lieb is a very well respected Search professional and has spent this week at the SES conference in San Jose, CA. I asked Rebecca to share a “golden nugget” or two regarding the goings on at the conference as it relates to the future of search.

Rebecca sat in on a session conversation with Nicholas Fox, business product management director for Google AdWords. Our conversation regarded Google’s potential shift from its current ad model to very different model that could negatively impact the future of search.

Rebecca quotes Fox as saying that the future of search might be a lot less about keywords as well as a lot less about advertisers creating their own ads. “Keywords have been the heart and soul of not only organic search optimization but also as well as paid advertising” according Rebecca.

Fox also discussed the potential of introducing a new pricing model and that Google was looking at a Cost per Acquisition model (CPA) performance model rather than the classic CPC or auction model that Web professionals and advertisers are used to today.

Rebecca heard a lot of skepticism from marketers about the potential of Google doing all of the heavy lifting coming from marketers attending the SES conference.

October 4–7
Los Angeles, California

For four unforgettable days this October, MAX 2009 will bring together thousands of designers, developers, and decision-makers to shape the future. Exchange ideas and build relationships with leading designers and developers, industry experts, and Adobe product teams. Choose from hundreds of sessions and labs presented by industry leaders and Adobe experts on best practices and emerging technologies. Join the inspiring conversations that unfold when thousands of the most innovative, creative minds gather in one place.
Here are a few of the ways that you and your organization will benefit by attending MAX:

· Break new ground — There’s no doubt that your organization’s future success and profitability will depend on its ability to create compelling applications, content, and video on screens of every size, across operating systems, accessible from anywhere at any time. At MAX, you’ll see how it’s already being done, and can figure out how to adapt your own organization’s approach to customer and market demands.

· Become more productive — MAX helps people work smarter and faster, starting right away. You’ll learn how to get to market faster through efficient design and development workflows that support iterative development. You’ll attend hands-on training sessions and learn from real-world case studies that cover everything from powering public-facing sites to driving intranets to creating engines for the next generation of rich Internet applications (RIAs).

· Upgrade our organization’s skills — The dedicated Develop track is packed with sessions that directly relate to the work you are doing now and the work you will need to do next. Plus, you can and choose the sessions that are most applicable to your organization. Sessions cover the technical challenges faced in architecting solutions, building applications, integrating with back-end systems and services, dealing with occasionally connected clients, collaborating in real time, and much more.

· Learn from the experts — All MAX sessions and labs are taught by the best of the best — the kind of people you don’t just run into every day. At the same time, they can share their years of experience regarding what works and what doesn’t. This year’s developer headliners include Ray Camden, former vice president of software development at Broadchoice; Ely Greenfield, Adobe developer and Flex expert; and Christophe Coenraets, senior technical evangelist at Adobe.

· Bring home best practices — MAX attendees come from organizations all over the world, from small businesses to Fortune 1000 companies and local nonprofits to large government agencies. Past attendees include Google, Sony, FedEx, and Disney, just to name a few. That means you’ll be able to exchange ideas and make one-on-one contact with people who have dealt with the same challenges your organization is facing and learn how they tackled those challenges. And when you leave, they’ll be a part of your organization’s extended network.
